Empowering Frontline Heroes: IHHN’s ICON–26 Pre-Conference Workshop Focuses on TB Care Excellence

October 21, 2025, Lahore

The Community Health Directorate (CHD) of Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) successfully organized a pre-conference workshop titled “DS-DR Tuberculosis Management & Preventive Therapy Protocols” at its Hospital in Jubilee Town, Lahore.

The workshop brought together healthcare professionals and field teams for an in-depth learning experience designed to enhance TB care delivery in Pakistan. The session opened with an inspiring introduction by Dr. Dur-e-Nishat, Clinical Lead, CHD–IHHN, setting a tone of collaboration and purpose.

Comprehensive training was led by Prof. Dr. Zaheer Akhter, Professor of Pulmonology and Diabetes at Gulab Devi Chest Hospital, who shared valuable insights connecting clinical evidence with practical application. Participants gained clarity on the differences between Drug-Sensitive (DS) and Drug-Resistant (DR) TB, effective management of Extra Pulmonary TB (EPTB), handling of Adverse Drug Reactions (ADRs), and strategies for improving treatment adherence.

A special focus was placed on Tuberculosis Preventive Therapy (TPT) for children and adolescents — a critical area in Pakistan’s ongoing TB control efforts. The case-based, interactive discussions encouraged participants to share field experiences, fostering collaborative problem-solving and stronger clinical decision-making

Dr. Dur-e-Nishat shared, “Workshops like this are vital in bridging the gap between policy and practice, especially for diseases that continue to affect our most vulnerable populations.”

By empowering healthcare workers through continuous training, IHHN continues to strengthen Pakistan’s response to TB — promoting quality care that aligns with national as well as WHO standards, while advancing the organization’s broader mission of accessible, quality patient-centered healthcare for all.
