Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) hosted a focused Pre-ICON 2026 workshop on “Managing Diabetic Foot” on 4 November 2025 at the IDEC & Seminar Room, New Building, IHHN, Karachi. The two-hour, skill-based session brought together 32 healthcare professionals to strengthen practical skills in diabetic foot care and to reinforce evidence-based approaches for early detection and management.
The workshop opened with a brief inaugural address that underlined the importance of timely foot assessment for people with diabetes. The core of the event was an 80-minute hands-on training where participants rotated through four specialised skill stations: comprehensive foot examination to identify risk signs, principles of antibiotic stewardship for rational use in diabetic foot infections, safe techniques for callus and corn removal, and correct Ankle–Brachial Pressure Index (ABPI) measurement. Interactive demonstrations, supervised practice and scenario-based discussions ensured active learning and immediate skill application.
A distinguished panel led the sessions: Prof. Muhammad Yaqoob Ahmedani (Consultant Diabetologist and Head, Foot Care Service, IHHN) delivered the inaugural remarks and guided the foot examination station; Prof. Musarrat Riaz (Consultant Endocrinologist, DUHS) facilitated the antibiotic stewardship module; Dr. Sumerah Jabeen (HOD, Diabetes & Endocrinology Centre, IHHN) led the ABPI demonstrations; and Mr. Zia ul Haq, Footcare Assistant at IHHN, supervised callus and corn removal techniques.
The workshop closed with a Q&A and feedback session during which participants reflected on practical takeaways and identified areas for further training. Attendees reported increased confidence in performing foot exams and ABPI measurements, greater understanding of antibiotic stewardship, and improved competence in safe mechanical debridement. Materials and images from the workshop will be made available through the ICON 2026 portal and IHHN media library for participants and departmental reference.
