Empowering Providers for Safe Postpartum Family Planning

A two-day workshop titled “Empowering Providers for Safe Postpartum Family Planning” was held at the Al-Ghazi Campus from 5–6 November. Organized and led by Dr. Suman together with Ms. Bibi Ara, Manager of Midwifery, the workshop aimed to strengthen healthcare providers’ ability to deliver safe, effective and client-centred postpartum family planning services.

The interactive workshop brought together 10 registered participants from maternity and reproductive health services. Through a mix of practical sessions, role-plays and group discussions, participants refreshed counselling skills, explored appropriate postpartum contraceptive method selection, and discussed strategies to improve service delivery within maternity settings.

Key topics covered:
Counselling skills for postpartum clients
Postpartum contraceptive options and method selection
Practical approaches to integrate postpartum family planning into routine maternity care
Client-centred service delivery and informed choice

“Building providers’ confidence and skills immediately improves the care new mothers receive,” said Dr. Suman, underscoring IHHN’s commitment to respectful, evidence-based family planning services.

The workshop aligns with Indus Hospital & Health Network’s ongoing efforts to strengthen maternal and newborn health through capacity building and ensuring women have access to safe, timely family planning choices after childbirth.
