ICON 2026 Strengthens Maternal & Newborn Care Through PPFP, EMOTIVE, and WHO Labour Care Guide Trainings

As part of ICON 2026’s pre-conference capacity-building initiatives, the Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) conducted a comprehensive three-day training series from November 5–7, 2025, held at the Bhong Campus, Rahim Yar Khan. The workshops focused on Postpartum Family Planning (PPFP), the EMOTIVE Bundle of Care, and the WHO Labour Care Guide (LCG), bringing together midwives, LHVs, and facility-level healthcare providers for skill-based learning.

The two-day PPFP workshop strengthened participants’ capabilities in client-centered counseling, safe method selection using the MEC Wheel, and hands-on IUCD/PPIUCD insertion and removal. Through practical demonstrations, role-plays, and guided sessions, participants enhanced their understanding of safe postpartum family planning and improved their ability to provide evidence-based counseling to clients.

The one-day EMOTIVE and WHO LCG workshop focused on improving providers’ ability to respond to postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) emergencies and apply structured labour monitoring tools. Simulation drills, team-based exercises, and real-time demonstrations helped participants strengthen emergency coordination, documentation, and clinical decision-making during labour and delivery.

Participants reported increased confidence, improved teamwork, and stronger readiness to manage maternal and newborn cases within their facilities. These trainings reflect IHHN’s commitment to building a resilient, skilled, and patient-centered healthcare workforce—aligned with the ICON 2026 theme: Resilient Care, Sustainable Futures.
