The Emergency Medicine Department at IHHN Karachi hosted a Pre-ICON 2026 workshop, “Saving Seconds, Saving Lives: Essentials of Emergency Medicine Resuscitation in Pakistan,” on December 16, 2025. The full-day workshop, attended by 23 participants (16 doctors and 7 nurses), highlighted the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration in emergency care.
The workshop aimed to enhance participants’ skills in rapidly assessing and managing critically ill patients through a structured, context-sensitive approach to emergency resuscitation tailored to the needs of Pakistan. The curriculum was delivered through a combination of lectures, hands-on skills stations, and team-based resuscitation exercises, centered on the ABCDE approach, trauma care, immobilization techniques, as well as the management of shock, burns, and altered mental status.
The workshop was led by Dr. Sama Mukhtar, Consultant EM, IHHN (Master Trainer), along with Dr. Sarfaraz Ahmed (Specialist EM Tree Top Hospital, Maldives), Dr. Saira Gul Rukh (Senior Medical Officer EM, IHHN), and Drs. Amreen Khatri and Aamir Ismail (PG EM, IHHN).
By the end of the workshop, participants demonstrated improved confidence and competence in applying structured resuscitation techniques and fundamental emergency skills to stabilize critically ill patients, emphasizing effective communication and coordinated decision-making in emergency settings.
This workshop underscores IHHN’s unwavering commitment to capacity building, promoting high-quality emergency care, and professional development; aligned with the broader theme of ICON 2026: “Resilient Care, Sustainable Future – Bridging Climate Action and Patient-Centered Healthcare.”
