The Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) organized a specialized workshop on “Ethical Reasoning in Clinical Practice” at Dr. Sikandar Ali Maandhro Civil Hospital, Badin, as part of the pre-conference activities for the upcoming ICON 2026. Doctors, nurses, and other medical staff from the hospital participated in the session, which aimed to strengthen ethical decision-making in day-to-day clinical practice. The workshop focused on helping healthcare professionals navigate complex moral and ethical challenges encountered in modern medicine.
Dr. Sikandar Ali Memon, Head of Campus, welcomed the guest speakers and participants. In his address, he highlighted the importance of ethical reasoning in ensuring patient-centered, transparent, and responsible healthcare delivery. Aligned with the broader theme of ICON 2026 “Resilient Care, Sustainable Future: Bridging Climate Action and Patient-Centered Healthcare” the workshop emphasized integrating ethical principles into clinical decision-making. Key learning objectives included recognizing moral values of clinicians and patients, applying structured ethical frameworks in clinical practice, and analyzing the short- and long-term impact of medical decisions.
The session was facilitated by senior members of the IHHN Clinical Ethics Committee, including Dr. Nida Ilyas Shamsi (Consultant & Head of Family Medicine, Karachi), Dr. Ruhma Ashraf (Consultant Family Medicine, Karachi), and Dr. Shahnawaz Karim (Consultant & Head of Internal Medicine, Badin). Through interactive discussions and case-based learning, the facilitators guided participants on addressing ethical dilemmas in diverse healthcare settings. By the conclusion of the workshop, participants were better equipped to systematically evaluate ethical issues in clinical practice, reinforcing IHHN’s commitment to delivering ethically sound and patient-centered care across its network.
