Another pre-ICON 2026 workshop titled “Safe and Sustainable Healthcare: A Workshop on Modern Hospital Waste Management” was held at Indus Hospital, Jubilee Town, Lahore reinforcing its commitment to environmentally responsible and patient-centered healthcare practices. The workshop aimed to build awareness and practical capacity around safe, efficient, and sustainable management of healthcare waste across hospital settings.
The workshop was facilitated by Mr. Naeem Shehzad, Lead Consultant and Corporate Trainer-PIQC, Mr. Imran Ali, Deputy Manager EHS-IHHN, and Mr. Imran Riaz, Manager Housekeeping-IHHN, who shared real-world experiences, case studies, and practical guidance.
The session addressed critical areas including the importance of healthcare waste management, WHO classification of waste, sources of healthcare waste, and best practices in segregation, storage, transportation, treatment, and disposal.
Participants also examined challenges faced by both developing and developed countries, environmental and climate impacts of improper waste handling, auditing and monitoring mechanisms, and sustainability-driven solutions. A special emphasis was placed on understanding common reasons for system failure and identifying actionable pathways for improvement.
As part of the PRE-ICON 2026 series under the theme “Resilient Care, Sustainable Future,” the initiative reflects IHHN’s ongoing efforts to protect healthcare workers, communities, and the environment through sustainable practices.
