Beyond Compliance: Building a Culture of Biosafety & Biosecurity in the Laboratory

Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) conducted a Pre-ICON 2026 workshop titled “Beyond Compliance: Building a Culture of Biosafety & Biosecurity in the Lab” at the Korangi Campus, Karachi. The workshop focused on strengthening biosafety and biosecurity practices by promoting a culture of responsibility beyond regulatory compliance.

Participants gained practical insights into identifying laboratory hazards, assessing risks, applying safety measures, and following correct incident reporting procedures. Interactive discussions highlighted common challenges in maintaining laboratory safety and emphasized the importance of embedding safe practices into daily laboratory operations.

The workshop was facilitated by Dr. Nazia Khursheed, Chair Clinical Laboratory; Dr. Fareeha Adnan, Section Head; and Ms. Sana Munir, Senior Biosafety Officer, Indus Hospital & Health Network.
