Visualize to Stabilize: Strengthening Rapid Pediatric Emergency Response with POCUS

Karachi, January 19, 2026 — Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) conducted a one-day hands-on workshop titled “Visualize to Stabilize: Rapid Pediatric Emergency Response with Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS)” at the Transfusion Hall, Blood Center, Karachi. The workshop was designed to enhance the clinical skills of pediatric emergency care providers by integrating bedside ultrasound into real-time decision-making during critical pediatric emergencies.

The training focused on building a strong foundation in ultrasound physics and knobology, while emphasizing practical application in high-acuity pediatric scenarios. Through interactive demonstrations, simulations, and case-based discussions, participants gained hands-on experience in performing focused cardiac scans, RUSH (shock) protocol, lung ultrasound, abdominal E-FAST examinations, and ultrasound-guided vascular access in critically ill children.

A key highlight of the workshop was its emphasis on translating ultrasound findings into immediate clinical action, enabling faster diagnosis, improved resuscitation outcomes, and enhanced team coordination in emergency settings. Participants also reported increased confidence and competency in using POCUS during pediatric emergencies.

The session was moderated by Dr. Uzma Khurram Shaikh, Pediatric Emergency Specialist, IHHN. Facilitators and presenters included Dr. Ali Raza, Dr. Sindho, Dr. Tooba Raees Rajput, Dr. Samia, Dr. Saba Laila, Dr. Unaisa Javed Kazi, and Dr. Qurat Bushra Noor, all representing the Pediatric and Adult Emergency Departments at IHHN.

The workshop was further enriched by an international perspective from Dr. Maya Harel-Sterling, Paediatric Emergency Medicine Physician and Director of the Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) Program at the Hospital for Sick Children, who joined as a guest speaker and shared global best practices in pediatric emergency ultrasound.

This initiative reflects Indus Hospital & Health Network’s ongoing commitment to advancing emergency care education, promoting evidence-based practice, and strengthening the capacity of healthcare professionals to deliver timely, high-quality care to critically ill children.
