Kinesio Taping for Athletic Injury Prevention and Management

Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN) conducted a hands-on workshop titled “Kinesio Taping for Athletic Injury Prevention and Management” to enhance the practical skills of healthcare and rehabilitation professionals in supporting athletes through effective injury prevention and management strategies.

The workshop focused on assessing functional movement, posture, and soft tissue conditions to determine appropriate kinesio taping applications. Participants learned how to select the correct tape type, width, tension, and application techniques tailored to specific sports-related injuries.

Through live demonstrations and practical sessions, participants were trained in kinesio taping techniques for common athletic conditions, including ankle sprains, shoulder instability, and patellofemoral pain. Emphasis was placed on modifying taping approaches based on individual factors such as skin sensitivity, sweating, hair, and activity level to ensure comfort, safety, and effectiveness.

The session also highlighted the importance of integrating kinesio taping with therapeutic exercise and rehabilitation programs to support injury prevention, enhance performance, and promote safe return to activity. Participants were guided on proper tape removal, athlete education, after-care, precautions, and recognition of warning signs requiring further medical attention.

The workshop was facilitated by Dr. Lauren Podina, PT (MSPT, DPT, MBA), Chief Executive Officer, Orthopedic Specialists of Dallas, and Dr. Ramsha Ilyas, PT, Physiotherapist, Orthopedic Specialists of Dallas. Their expert guidance provided valuable clinical insights and practical knowledge aligned with international best practices.

The session reinforced IHHN’s commitment to capacity building and advancing evidence-based rehabilitation practices for improved athletic care and injury prevention.
