In line with its commitment to improving maternal and newborn health outcomes, Indus Hospital & Health Network organized a two-day Emergency Obstetric Care (EMOC) training session on February 2–3, 2026, at the Seminar Hall, Block C, Dr. Sikandar Ali Mandhro Civil Hospital. The training brought together healthcare professionals dedicated to enhancing the quality of obstetric care and strengthening emergency response capacity in the district.
The primary focus of the session was to promote safe and respectful childbirth practices while improving monitoring of labour progress, early identification of complications, and timely clinical decision-making. Through interactive discussions and practical learning, participants enhanced their clinical skills and deepened their understanding of managing complex obstetric situations.
By the end of the training, participants were equipped to perform safe caesarean sections with greater confidence and precision. The session comprehensively covered the effective management of obstetric emergencies, including post-partum haemorrhage (PPH), shoulder dystocia, balloon tamponade procedures, and breech delivery. Emphasis was also placed on infection prevention and patient safety principles, maintaining strict asepsis, and adopting best practices aimed at reducing maternal morbidity and mortality. The workshop underscored practical, evidence-based approaches to emergency obstetric care, ensuring that frontline providers are better prepared to respond swiftly and effectively in critical situations.
The session was facilitated by a distinguished panel of experts, including Dr. Mubushra Samina, Consultant and Chair of Obstetrics & Gynecology, IHHN, Karachi, Dr. Ambreen Ghouri, Assistant Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology at Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences; Dr. Najma Dalwani, Chair of Obstetrics & Gynecology, IHHN, Badin, and Dr. Naeema Irfan, Head of Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology, IHHN, Badin. Their collective expertise ensured an engaging and skills-focused learning environment, encouraging active participation and knowledge exchange.
This initiative reflects IHHN’s continued efforts to build local capacity and strengthen maternal healthcare services in underserved areas. By enhancing emergency obstetric competencies, the network remains committed to safeguarding the lives of mothers and newborns across Sindh.
