Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Skills: Simulator-based Training

Karachi, Pakistan – February 14 2026: A comprehensive workshop titled “Fundamentals of Laparoscopic Skills: Simulator-based Training” was conducted at the High Q Pharma Simulation Center, Karsaz, Karachi. The session provided surgical trainees with a structured, hands-on learning experience designed to strengthen core laparoscopic competencies in a controlled simulation environment.

The workshop focused on the fundamental principles of laparoscopic surgery, including proper instrument handling, camera navigation, and ergonomic positioning. Participants worked on improving hand–eye coordination and depth perception—essential skills for safe and effective minimally invasive procedures. Through simulator-based exercises such as pack transfer, beads transfer, thread passing, and precision paper cutting, attendees practiced controlled movements and accuracy.

The training also included basic laparoscopic suturing techniques, emphasizing correct needle handling, tissue approximation, and safe operative practices. By the end of the session, participants gained increased confidence and practical experience, enabling them to perform laparoscopic procedures more safely, efficiently, and with proper ergonomics in a real operating theatre setup.

The workshop was facilitated by experienced faculty members, including Dr. Ghina Shamsi and Dr. Nazia Lodhi, Consultants in General Surgery at Indus Hospital & Health Network (IHHN), Dr. Hina Faisal, Facilitator, High Q Pharma, Dr. Ghina Awais, Senior Registrar, General Surgery, IHHN, Dr. Ihsan Ahmed, Senior Registrar, General Surgery, IHHN,  Dr. Shahzad Ahmed, Senior Registrar, General Surgery, IHHN, and Dr. Javeria Munir, Registrar, General Surgery, IHHN.

This initiative reflects IHHN’s ongoing commitment to advancing surgical education through innovative, simulation-based training and continuous professional development.
