Dr. Maryam Mustafa is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science, the Director of the Gender and Technology Cluster and the Director of the Saida Waheed Gender Centre at the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), Pakistan. Her research examines technology design, access, and adoption in diverse and developing contexts and across intersections of gender, class and religion. Much of her work focuses on leveraging AI technologies to improve women’s intimate and reproductive health in Pakistan. Her recent project funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation, Awaz-e-Sehat is a smart-phone based, easy-to-use AI assistant with speech and text recognition to help maternal health care workers create electronic medical records and provide diagnostic support to ultimately improve maternal health outcomes. |
