Najia Ashar
Najia Ashar, senior anchor, and broadcast journalist, has her beginnings in Karachi University, where she obtained her BA in International Relations/ Mass Communication in Sociology. She received her Master’s degree from the Department of International Relations at Karachi University. Najia was awarded the John S. Knight Journalism Fellowship 2014 at Stanford University and has been a senior anchor and producer for Geo News for ten years. As a journalist, Najia has reported and covered a host of events, including the 2005 Pakistan earthquake, the assassination of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto 2007, the 2008 US presidential election, Pakistani general election 2008, the Mumbai attacks 2008, Pakistan floods 2010, Abbottabad Operation 2011, the attack on Malala Yousafzai 2012 and Pakistan general election 2013. For her work in the media industry, she has received several journalism honors from universities, media organizations, and journalist associations of Pakistan. She is a fellow at The East-West Center, US PAK US Journalist’s Exchange Program 2013, John S. Knight Journalism Fellow 2014-15, and Yahoo International Fellow 2015.
