|Professor Karamat, a consultant in diabetes and endocrinology at University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust and Honorary Professor at City University Birmingham, graduated as the Best Graduate with 7 Gold Medals from Rawalpindi Medical College and Punjab University. His expertise, honed during higher specialist training at the University of Birmingham, is showcased in his M.D. research on non-invasive screening for diabetes mellitus.
Leading the Type 1 Diabetes service and co-leading regional islet transplantation services, Professor Karamat is actively engaged in diabetes management, technology applications in Type 1 DM, and related research. With over 20 PubMed-indexed publications and book chapters on diabetes, he has notably explored topics like diabetes during Ramadan, antenatal diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and intensive insulin therapy.
