Pediatric Interosseus Line Placement

Description:

This workshop is designed to provide healthcare providers with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and effectively establish an interosseous line in pediatric patients. The interosseous line serves as a valuable alternative to intravenous access in critically ill or injured children who are difficult to cannulate or have poor peripheral venous access.
The workshop will commence with a brief overview of the anatomy and physiology of the interosseous space, indications and contraindications for interosseous line placement, and the equipment needed for the procedure. Participants will then have the opportunity to practice interosseous line placement using simulation models with guidance from experienced instructors.
Throughout the workshop, participants will learn the importance of proper technique and positioning for interosseous line placement, as well as the potential complications and how to manage them. The workshop will also cover appropriate medication administration and fluid resuscitation through the interosseous line.

MSK ultrasound is a diagnostic imaging technique that uses high-frequency sound waves to produce real-time images of muscles, tendons, ligaments, and joints. It is a non-invasive and safe method of evaluating the musculoskeletal system, and it is becoming increasingly popular in rheumatology, sports medicine, and orthopedic practices.
MSK ultrasound delivers real-time "in the moment" diagnosis and is the crucial element in the correct placement of needles for intra-articular aspiration and instillation of drugs in routine as well as difficult cases. The purpose of this workshop is to master intra-articular injection techniques through ultrasound guidance to avoid the misplacement of drugs in challenging cases.

By the end of the course, participants will be able to identify and provide initial care to a seriously ill patient. This is an internationally accredited 2-day course designed for doctors who manage seriously ill patients.
The course includes pre-course reading material, a pre-test, lectures, skill stations, and a post-course test for certification. Course participants are expected to read the course book provided four weeks before the course and take an open-book pre-test before attending face-to-face teaching sessions.
