The Importance of 1000 Days of Life

Description: The first 1,000 days of life—from conception to a child's second birthday—are a critical window for growth

Description:

The first 1,000 days of life—from conception to a child's second birthday—are a critical window for growth and development. During this period, proper nutrition, healthcare, and nurturing care lay the foundation for lifelong health, cognitive development, and productivity. Poor nutrition in these 1,000 days can cause irreversible damage, including stunted growth, impaired brain development, and increased risk of chronic diseases later in life. Conversely, investing in maternal health, exclusive breastfeeding, adequate complementary feeding, and disease prevention during this time yields long-term benefits for individuals, families, and societies.

Description:

This workshop provides structured, competency-based training in urinary catheterization, an essential procedure across clinical disciplines. The program integrates theoretical instruction with supervised practice to ensure safe, effective, and evidence-based care. Participants will review the anatomy and physiology of the lower urinary tract, indications and contraindications for catheterization, and current professional guidelines. Emphasis is placed on infection prevention, particularly strategies to minimize catheter-associated urinary tract infections (CAUTIs). Hands-on sessions using anatomical models will enable participants to practice male and female catheterization techniques under expert guidance. Scenarios addressing patient consent, communication, and complication management—such as difficult insertions, blockages, and catheter malfunction—are incorporated to strengthen decision-making and technical confidence. Learning objectives: By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to: Identify clinical indications, contraindications, and risks associated with urinary catheterization. Demonstrate correct aseptic technique for male and female catheter insertion and removal. Apply evidence-based strategies to prevent and manage CAUTIs. Communicate effectively with patients to ensure safety, comfort, and informed consent. Troubleshoot and manage common technical and patient-related complications. This workshop is suitable for nurses, medical students, and junior doctors seeking foundational training, as well as experienced clinicians requiring a structured skills refresher.

Description:

The Basic Surgical Skills Workshop is a hands-on training program designed to introduce participants to essential techniques required in the operating room. This workshop is tailored for medical students, interns, and early-career healthcare professionals who aim to strengthen their foundation in surgical practice. The session covers key principles of aseptic technique, instrument handling, knot tying, and suturing methods. Participants will gain practical experience with surgical instruments, develop dexterity in handling tissues, and learn how to perform basic wound closure under guided supervision. Emphasis is placed on precision, safety, and efficiency, ensuring that attendees acquire the confidence to apply these skills in clinical settings. In addition to practical exercises, the workshop incorporates short demonstrations, interactive discussions, and step-by-step guidance from experienced surgeons. By focusing on core competencies, the program bridges the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-life application in surgical environments. Upon completion, participants will be equipped with the fundamental skills required for further surgical training and will have developed a deeper understanding of teamwork, sterile field maintenance, and patient safety in operative care. This workshop provides an invaluable steppingstone for those pursuing a career in surgery or any discipline requiring procedural proficiency.
