Helping Baby Breath (HBB)

Description:

Helping Baby Breathe is a simulation-based resuscitation program for low resource settings that teaches the skills of caring for healthy babies and assisting babies that do not breathe on their own after birth. The first minutes after birth are very critical for a neonate and resuscitation measures taken at this point can save lives reducing neonatal mortality.
According to PPHI in rural areas of Sindh, birth asphyxia accounts for 23% of neonatal mortality, which is mainly due to the deliveries conducted by unskilled birth attendants. As the patients rely on these unskilled birth attendants for deliveries, the purpose of such trainings is to develop a skill set that will help reduce neonatal mortality and save life during the “golden minute” after birth, through a focus on bag and mask ventilation.
We are planning to conduct HBB training for doctors and paramedics including midwives, health workers working in the community in January 2024. It will be a one-day training spanning over 8 hours.
There will be two Master trainers and 1 facilitator from Family medicine department who will be conducting the training.

Cardiovascular Risk Stratification Using High Sensitivity Troponin I and Clinical Decision Support System

Description:

Cardiovascular disease is one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide. Timely diagnosis is extremely critical in such patients, which helps healthcare professionals decide the treatment pathway, thereby supporting them in their journey at different stages for overall patient satisfaction.
This workshop is designed to elaborate on and discuss with healthcare professionals the efficiency of high-sensitivity troponin I along with other cardiac biomarkers for risk stratification, which could help patients in early-stage detection. In this session, the participants will have a chance to learn about the global perspective through international speakers as well as from Pakistan's few key opinion leaders, who will share their experience in treating such patients supported by real-time examples and case scenarios.
We will also present how patient care can be linked through state-of-the-art informatics using the Clinical Decision Support (CDS) system. CDS utilizes the power of lab data to provide customized, patient-specific information in light of changing clinical guidelines. It supports healthcare professionals in reducing care variability due to many unforeseen events and improving outcomes by optimizing the overall process of treatment.

Strategies to Combat Antimicrobial Resistance

Description:

This workshop is designed to discover and adopt new tests that can help in the identification of multi-drug-resistant organisms (MDR) in a shorter period of time. We all know that rising antimicrobial resistance is a challenge not only for treating physicians but also for healthcare facilities. Discovering test modalities that can identify MDR by reducing turnaround time can have a huge impact on patients' outcomes. Early recognition of MDR bugs will also help in the implementation of prompt infection control measures, which will limit the spread of infection in hospitals. Vascular Anomalies: A Multidiscipinary Approach

Description:

This workshop is designed to help medical professionals improve their understanding of the diagnosis and management of vascular anomalies.
Vascular anomalies are a heterogeneous group of lesions resulting from a focal increase in the number of vessels that are abnormally tortuous and enlarged. This is likely due to localized defects in vascular development during vasculogenesis and especially during angiogenesis. These are broadly classified as vascular tumors and vascular malformations.
Among vascular tumors, hemangiomas are the most common benign tumors, with ‘Infantile hemangiomas (IH)’ as the predominant variety.
Vascular malformations are subcategorized by their predominant channel type (venous, lymphatic, capillary, arterial, or a combination). Based on differences in biological and radiological characteristics, they are further classified into slow-flow and fast-flow lesions.
Patients with vascular anomalies are “medical nomads,” as they give rise to diagnostic and therapeutic challenges due to their diverse presentations, growth patterns, association with anomalies, variable response to treatment, and possibility of multiorgan involvement.
These complexities warrant a multimodal and multidisciplinary approach with the collective efforts of dermatologists, surgeons, interventional radiologists, pediatricians, and other specialists to aid in the diagnosis and management of these patients.
During the workshop, you will learn about diagnosis and different treatment strategies for the management of patients with vascular anomalies.
Some of the topics covered in this workshop include:
  • Classification and management of vascular anomalies
  • Role of diagnostic and Interventional radiology in the management of vascular anomalies
  • Vascular Anomalies Center Pakistan-Experience of 1000+ patients
  • Multidisciplinary team meeting
