Introduction

Diabetes Mellitus is on its way to becoming a global health issue, with Pakistan being one of the countries with the highest incidence rate during the last decade. Pakistan is one of the countries with the highest death rate due to diabetes-related complications. While statistics are alarming, they might be misleading as well, and we might just be looking at the tip of the iceberg.

Introduction

Patient engagement can promote mutual accountability and understanding between patients and providers. Patients and caregivers play a central role in health care safety in the hospital, ambulatory care setting, and community. Despite this, interventions to promote patient engagement in safety are still underexplored. There are several promising modes of patient engagement in safety, such as anticoagulation management and patient portal access, but they are not widely implemented. In this era of patient-centered care, health care leaders are in search of efficacious strategies to involve patients and families in health care safety. However, the evidence bases to guide engagement has been limited. In this session, we will discuss major implementation priorities and propose directions for future research and policy to enhance patient partnership within safety efforts.

Introduction

Nearly 6 million babies are born in Pakistan every year: of these, nearly a million die on the day of their birth. This is a tragedy of massive proportions, not only for the family but also for the nation. A large number of these deaths could be prevented by good antenatal and perinatal care. In particular, if appropriate help is provided during the transitional period when the baby transitions from intrauterine to extrauterine life.

Introduction

Renowned Professor Dr Safdar Ali will be giving the Presentation on the the clinical use of color Doppler sonography in OBGYN. Color Doppler sonography has become an integral part of cardiovascular imaging. Significant improvements have recently occurred, improving the visualization and evaluation of intra-organ vascularity, resulting from enhancements in delineation of tissue detail through electronic compounding and harmonics, as well as enhancements in signal processing of frequency- and/or amplitude-based color Doppler sonography. Spatial representation of vascularity can be improved by utilizing 3D and 4D (live 3D) processing. Greater sensitivity of color Doppler sonography to macro- and microvascular flow has provided improved anatomic and physiologic assessment throughout pregnancy and for pelvic organs. The potential use of contrast enhancement is also mentioned as a means to further differentiate benign from malignant ovarian lesions. The rapid development of these new sonographic techniques will continue to enlarge the scope of clinical applications in a variety of obstetric and gynecologic disorders.

Enhancing Patient Safety and Quality in Perioperative Care and ICU

IntroductionThe session aims to highlight recent advances in the approach to managing critically ill and high-risk surgical patients

Introduction

The session aims to highlight recent advances in the approach to managing critically ill and high-risk surgical patients with an emphasis on patient safety and quality of care. The care providers in these environments are working in an environment where complex decisions are made, and interventions carried out in narrow time frames. There is a high risk of errors resulting in adverse outcomes, particularly when dealing with patients with low physiological reserves. The talks in this session highlight the role of anesthesiologist as perioperative physician and custodian of patient safety, proposing ICU quality indicators that are meaningful and measurable in low resource environment, and the value of ultrasound as a tool in point of care decision making in critically ill patients in the ICU and perioperative care setting. Outcome research in anesthesia is largely focused on short term goals focusing on patient comfort and prevention of short-term complications. The focus has recently shifted to measuring the effect of anesthetic interventions on medium- and long-term outcomes. Our panel discussion will explore the outcomes that can guide the doctors, patients and their families in making rational decisions.

Introduction

The impact of air quality in a hospital setting is pivotal for providing an appropriate background for allied and clinical services to run effectively. Key points to consider include: The air quality index is currently a gold standard in various hospital frameworks. It serves as an important indicator of infection control for preventing airborne diseases. Indoor air quality classification in hospitals is crucial. The ASHRAE index and the use of various filtration levels across hospitals are integral to JCI accreditation.

Introduction

Artificial intelligence (AI) is a branch of computer science that deals with the creation of intelligent agents, which are systems that can reason, learn, and act autonomously. AI research has been highly successful in developing effective techniques for solving a wide range of problems, from game-playing to medical diagnosis. AI is being used in healthcare in a variety of ways, including: • Diagnosis: AI can help doctors diagnose diseases by analyzing large amounts of medical data. For example, AI-powered algorithms have been shown to be as accurate as human radiologists at detecting breast cancer in mammograms. • Treatment: AI can be used to develop personalized treatment plans for patients. For example, AI-powered algorithms can predict which patients are most likely to respond to a particular drug treatment. • Surgery: AI-powered robots are being used to perform surgery with greater precision and accuracy than human surgeons. For instance, AI-powered robots have been used to perform complex brain surgeries with a success rate comparable to human surgeons. • Drug discovery: AI can be used to identify new drug targets and design new drugs. For example, AI-powered algorithms have been used to identify new drug targets for Alzheimer's disease. • Healthcare administration: AI can automate administrative tasks in healthcare, such as scheduling appointments and processing claims. For example, AI-powered chatbots can be used to answer patients' questions and provide support
